Bruce Nauman

Bruce Nauman was born in 1941. He is an American artist, his practice spans a broad range of media including sculpture, photography, neon, video, drawing, printmaking, and performance. Nauman lives near Galisteo, New Mexico.

This piece is made up of video installations. He filmed his own studio at night and let his cat run around and catch the mice in there. The camera he used had an I infrared setting. He set the camera up in different locations around the studio to show variety. Naaman filmed one hour per night over a period of several months to generate lots of footage. I chose to look at his installation as inspiration as we are currently confined and restricted and this piece tackles thesis topics. When looking at the images of the installation the room looks extremely claustrophobic as it is dark. On each wall of the room a different clip is shown large scale trapping and isolating the viewer in the middle of the room. All the screens are slightly different colours to represent the locations within his studio. The infrared setting makes the clips appear creepy as if they are part of a horror film.
